The Twilight Saga continues with New Moon, the sequel to Twilight, a romantic fantasy series based on the bestselling novels by Stephenie Meyer. The first installation focussed on the personal relationship between human, Isabella "Bella" Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), as Edward tried to protect Bella from a group of hostile vampires. The filmmakers committed themselves to a faithful adaptation of the book, while aiming for the best movie they could make.
New Moon's trailer and marketing materials seem to suggest the formation of a love triangle between Edward, Jacob and Bella. Summit Entertainment's official synopsis reads "Bella Swan is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen, but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested." The franchise's box office success will clear the path for further sequels in The Twilight Saga with Stephenie Meyer's novels, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Eclipse has been given the green light, however it has been revealed that New Moon director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) will not be directing part three. David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) has signed on and is currently filming, Eclipse. The series has a similar arc to Harry Potter, which was also a bestselling fantasy series of novels, was adapted to film, formed a saga of sequels, elevated the star status of several previously unknown actors and grew darker and darker with each installation. Twilight fans are aching to see New Moon, and if the South African pre-release booking numbers are anything to go by, it looks like the dark series will continue to give fans the paranormal romance they're looking for... This week's Trailer Showdown is between the official New Moon trailer and the New Moon spoof trailer. VERSUS |
