Local Director, Tim Greene, to Compete with World's Best...

Tim Greene
is best known as the film-maker who convinced 1000 people to each invest R1000.00 in his first feature film, Boy Called Twist. With the finance raised through ‘crowd-sourcing’ – which at the time had not been done before in South Africa - the film was released to critical acclaim and went on to screen at Cannes and festivals around the world.

With his second film SKEEM, Greene will be rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of international directors when the film has its World Premiere at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival on 16th October 2011.

A classic caper movie that follows a mile-a-minute chase after a cardboard box full of cash, SKEEM has been selected to compete in the Showcase section, alongside films by such acclaimed directors as Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, George Clooney, Steven Soderbergh, Werner Hertzog and Terry Gilliam.

“It is a great honour to be included,” says producer Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat, “To be considered good enough to be in competition with these films is a dream come true. I cannot describe how proud I am to see Tim Greene's name in the roster with these directors.”

With one of the finest ever assembled casts in a South African feature film SKEEM boasts household names like Grant Swanby, Kenneth Nkosi, Rapulana Seiphemo, Casey B Dolan, Terence Bridgett, Zikhona Sodlaka, David Isaacs and Kurt Schoonraad.

As Goodman-Bhyat points out, “If you look at the cast lists of the films we are competing against, they’re all A-list Hollywood celebs! It just makes me feel so proud of our local talent.”

SKEEM has been snapped up by United International Pictures for release in South African cinemas from 28th October 2011, and has already secured theatrical release in the UK and distribution in the USA.
